Professional development in the security sector can put you on a pathway to higher level positions within security companies and other organisations. Those seeking promotion or higher salaried jobs should watch this site for developments.

At times promotion in your company may not be as quick as you would like. However many government agencies, organisations as well as corporate companies are currently or will be seeking security professionals at all levels to work within their company. These agencies and organisations expect the successful applicant to have maintained a professional development programme as well as membership of a suitable security organisation that supports them. The Security Institute of New Zealand is the organisation that will do this for you.

Personal Mentors

The security industry needs the support of professionals who understand the nature of the industry and also understand the need to ensure the future is as good as, if not better than it is now. To that end professionals should ask themselves what they are doing to improve the current situation and also what they are doing to enable a safer and more secure future for our communities.

The Institute is seeking security professionals to act as volunteer mentors within the industry to support the professional development of individuals or companies. The donation of a small amount of your time will guarantee the future of the security industry as a professional sector keeping people safe and secure.

 Business Mentoring

The Security Institute is liaising with Business Mentors New Zealand Limited. Business Mentors is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the success and growth of small businesses through the knowledge and experience of our volunteer mentors.

They have the support of nearly 2,000 volunteer mentors who give their time, skills and experience to the community and help local business people to succeed. That level of accumulated support and knowledge helps make them the leading business mentoring service provider to the small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector in New Zealand.

Managers or senior staff of security companies can access the mentor programme free of charge.

Starting your own company?

Opportunities exist in the New Zealand security market for aspiring business owners or owner-operators to set up their own company, target government contracts, council tenders or identify niche markets. The Security Institute is seeking mentors to work with those who wish to explore a start-up security business. The mentors will work in conjunction with the Business Mentor startup programme.

Business mentors has a Start-up Business Mentoring Programme which provides six months of accelerated mentoring for people who have a new business idea or are looking for help in starting a new business.
