Kathy holds the important role of Executive Secretary for SINZ and is also the Chairperson for the training division of the institute (NZ Security Training Association) . In her day job she is the Executive Director of C4 Group Limited (C4), New Zealand’s leading vocational security training company. Kathy manages the company’s NZQA processes and compliance which has seen C4 achieve a Category 1 grading from NZQA. This places C4 in the top 5% of NZQA training providers in NZ.
Prior to joining C4 Kathy spent 38 years as a Registered Nurse finishing her career as the Clinical Nurse Director for Surgical Services and Ambulatory Care at Counties Manukau District Health Board. Her considerable experience includes emergency and trauma nursing, ambulance, Primary Health Care, education, emergency management and executive leadership and management. A well-known wound care specialist and educator, in 2009 she led the NZ nursing wound care response team to Samoa following the Tsunami where she ran the Tsunami Ward and has also assisted the Rarotongan Ministry of Health to set up a comprehensive wound care programme.
Her passion is work based training and professional development and to support this she holds a Masters degree from Auckland University in Clinical Education (work-based teaching). Kathy spent many years as a lecturer for the University of Auckland and has delivered programmes both nationally and internationally. She is a founder and Chair of the NZ Security Training Association which focuses on the training needs of the security industry and has been proactive on the Skills and NZQA Targeted Review Of Qualifications (TROQ) panel for the sector. She has a special interest in the development of educational programmes based on formal Training Needs Analyses and was a member of the NZQA Project Advisory Group for the review of current NZ First Aid standards. She was also a member of the Skills Organisation working party that developed the new Emergency Responder qualification in 2015.
Pursuing her commitment to professional development, Kathy is currently completing a Master of Emergency Management at Massey University and the National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy (Level 4) through the Open Polytech of NZ.
In her spare time Kathy enjoys travelling, the beach and spending time with her family.
