Welcome to The Security Institute of New Zealand
At the moment there are many changes on the New Zealand security front. Changes in legislation and the introduction of Government agency mandatory PSR requirements are a few of these changes. Some parts of the security industry are keeping up with the changes, others require some assistance. There is a need for a body that provides dynamic leadership, is available to all those working in the security industry. We have excellent industry specific organisations such as The New Zealand Institute of Professional Investigators (NZIPI), ASIS International and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), however for many years there has been a gap in the overall leadership in the security industry particularly in the areas of professional and academic support.

Policing is no longer just the role of the Police. The Police provide significant leadership in all aspects of crime prevention and response, however the emergence of ‘plural policing’ where the community by way of volunteers as well as the paid corporate security sector assist Police and communities to reduce crime and reduce victimisation is changing our security landscape. SINZ recognises that the Police need more support across all aspects of crime prevention and in some ways how we are creating safer communities.

The Security Institute of New Zealand (SINZ) is dedicated to supporting the organisations, associations and businesses of New Zealand to maintain a safe and secure environment in which people in New Zealand can go about their daily activities safely and securely.

It does this by providing dynamic and professional leadership, supporting the security sector in ensuring that the interface with security provider is informed, professional and based on current knowledge and practices.

SINZ focuses on the professional and academic development of all security personnel (including community volunteers) and security professionals across New Zealand.

The intention is to become a Peak body for the New Zealand security industry. SINZ promotes operating standards within the security industry as well as safeguarding the public interest and promoting the security industry sector to the government, local bodies, public, clients and customers.

Mission Statement
Our aim is to provide a credible organisation that provides leadership, represents the industry, supports all who provide security services across a broad range of activities and services.

Community Security & Safety Volunteers

We recognise and support the volunteer community security and safety organisations as well as the individuals who dedicate their precious spare time and energy within their communities to make a difference for their neighbours and fellow community members. These people and organisations support the Police and communities and often work side by side security companies throughout New Zealand.

SINZ membership is available to all security personnel, security companies, community organisations and groups and those with an interest in the security sector.

The organisation actively represents all personnel operating in the security arena not just those that are paying members of an association. We do not believe that representation can be truly considered fair unless everyone is represented and has an equal opportunity for membership.

Basic membership is free to everybody and currently free to all security companies.
We represent all, including small, medium and large corporate members providing security services across the entire sector.

The organisation has commenced a journey. It is a work in progress, driven by security professionals as well as the leading security training provider in the country. Join now and start on a pathway that will help maintain New Zealand as a safe and security country to live and do business in.
